About the text

The Family with Two Front Doors follows the Rabinovitch family, based on the family of the author's real-life grandmother. The Rabinovitches are a large Jewish family living in Lublin, Poland during the 1920s. The family is composed of nine children, Mama, and Papa, who is a rabbi. The family lives spread out across two ground floor apartments. It is a lively, joyous residence, with members of the community visiting in order to receive advice from Papa. The novel is told from the perspectives of two of the Rabinovitch family, Nomi and Yakov. The Rabinovitch family is preparing for the wedding of fifteen-year-old Adina to man she's never met.
