Wonder is a 2012 children's novel following August "Auggie" Pullman, a ten-year old with Treacher Collins syndrome. Due to this condition, Auggie has had to undergo numerous surgeries throughout his short life and so has been homeschooled. However, his mother enrolls him in fifth grade at Beecher prep, wanting him to experience normal life. However, Auggie's condition means that he has a facial abnormality, making the prospect of attending school even more nerve-wracking. The story follows Auggie throughout the year as he navigates school, friendship, and bullies.

About the author

R. J. Palacio (born July 13th, 1963) is an American illustrator and author born and raised in New York. She was a graphic designer and art director for twenty years, designing hundreds of book covers for both fiction and non-fiction works. She wrote and illustrated numerous children's picture books before going on to publish her debut novel, Wonder, in 2012. Wonder was partially insired by her son's reaction to witnessing a child with a facial difference. She has since published several companion stories to Wonder.
